Machinery Parts Year-Round Ocean & Air DAP Delivery to Europe
Published on April 8, 2025
Project Background
Commissioned by the client, we ship various machinery parts to Europe year-round via ocean and air freight, mainly to Germany, Norway and Italy. The client requires DAP (Delivered at Place) door-to-door terms, meaning we are responsible not only for Chinese-side container loading, booking and export declaration, but also for European import clearance and final delivery to the consignee’s designated address. In addition, some of the cargo is over-length, placing higher demands on transport and handling.
Solution
Addressing the complexity of DAP door-to-door service and the difficulty of handling over-length cargo, we leveraged our years-long network of European local partners (covering Germany, Norway and Italy) to develop the following end-to-end operating plan:
China-Side Operations (Loading and Booking): Based on cargo type (general / over-length) and the client’s delivery deadlines, we rationally allocate ocean (FCL/LCL) and air channels. For over-length machinery parts we design the loading layout and lashing plan in advance to ensure stability during transit and avoid load imbalance or shifting.
European Import Clearance: Before the cargo arrives at the European port of destination (Hamburg in Germany, Genoa in Italy, Oslo in Norway, etc.), we transmit the clearance documents to our partner customs brokers in the corresponding countries in advance. Thanks to long-standing relationships with local customs authorities, import declarations and duty payments are completed in time, avoiding demurrage and storage surcharges caused by clearance delays.
European Warehouse Devanning and Cargo Inspection: After release, the container is trucked to our partner warehouses in each country (Germany, Italy, Norway) for devanning. During devanning, warehouse staff perform a visual inspection of every piece to confirm whether there is any denting, deformation or packaging damage caused during transit.
Damage Repair and Final Delivery: If minor damage is found (paint scratches, light deformation of metal parts, etc.), our warehouse team arranges on-site repair at the first opportunity to bring the cargo back to a usable condition. After repair, trucks deliver the cargo to the final consignee’s designated address in Germany, Italy or Norway, avoiding complaints or returns from the consignee receiving damaged goods.
End-to-End Visual Tracking: The customer service team regularly updates the client on each step (domestic loading, sailing/flight status, clearance progress, warehouse inspection results, delivery completion time) to keep the client in full control.
Project Results
- Seamless end-to-end linkage: From container loading at the Chinese factory to consignee signature in the three European countries, we deliver a true DAP door-to-door one-stop service, with no need for the client to deal with multiple suppliers.
- Zero clearance delays: Thanks to the efficient operations of our local partners in Germany, Italy and Norway, import clearance is always completed within the free-time / free-storage period, with no additional demurrage or storage fees ever incurred.
- Zero damage complaints: Through pre-inspection and instant repair at our own warehouses, every piece of cargo reaching the client is in good condition, maintaining a long-running zero-complaint record.
- Mature over-length handling: A standardized loading and transport plan has been developed for over-length machinery parts, with no transport incidents or customs inspection exceptions caused by dimensions.
- Stronger client stickiness: Stable service quality and timely exception handling have led the client to entrust us with the export business to all three European countries for several consecutive years.
